Zebra Finches

Image Code: Zebra Finches MRW2552

Taeniopygia guttata  Is the most common and familiar finch of Australia and perhaps the world.  It ranges over most of the continent, avoiding only the cool moist south and the tropical far north. It also can be found natively in Indonesia and East Timor.  A bird of the desert, the Zebra Finch is known as a 'boom and bust' species, it breeds in great numbers after substantial rains in its native habitat.
