Yellow-bellied Sunbird

Image Code: Yellow-bellied Sunbird MRW008423

Cinnyris jugularis  The sunbirds are a group of very small birds ranging from China through SE Asia to Australia.  The Yellow-bellied is Australia's only member of this genus. Their flight is fast and direct and they can take nectar by hovering.  They build a flask-shaped nest, with an overhanging porch at the entrance, and a trail of hanging material at the bottom. These nests are often built on the verandahs of the residents of Northern Queensland.
