Image Code: Palm Cockatoos MRW7211
Probosciger aterrimus Our largest and oldest cockatoo species, the Palm Cockatoo is found only on Cape York Peninsular in Australia. A specialised nestuing habitat and low breeding success rate (they one egg every second year) have made these cockies vunerable to habitat fisturbance caused by bauxite mining and altered fire regimes. In this photograph both male and female are present as they exchange nesting duties.
